Narendra Raval of Kenya, known as 'Guru', is a new addition to Forbes' list of Africa's Richest this year and has investments in steel, aluminum, and cement. Raval was born in India and worked as an assistant priest in a Swaminarayan temple before moving to Kenya as a teenager to serve in another temple. He was expelled from the sect after marrying a Kenyan woman and decided to work in a small steel factory, where he learned how to make steel. In 1986, he and his wife established a small steel processing and trading business in downtown Nairobi using their savings.
