Leroy Russell, born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, grew up with a strong desire to be a musician. He performed at many events while attending Anchovy High School and in his hometown of Flankers. His home crowd strongly encouraged him to pursue a career as a professional musician. He followed their advice and recorded his first song, Spartan Story, at Snipa Studios in Flankers. He became a studio staple, recording several songs including Sparta Out At Night, Mama Mi Love You, Father Save Them Soul, Still Live On, and his breakout hit, Warn Dem.
