Mike Rua is a kikuyu Mugithi maestro who has blessed many Kenyans with positive energy. Mike Rua grew up in the Mang'u Kiambu county. Rua realized his gift as a musician at a young age and chose to pursue it. Mike began learning to play the guitar when he was 13 years old and still in primary school. Rua admired those in his church who could play the guitar well and would always practice. Mike Rua explained in an interview how fortunate he was because the church instruments were kept at his home while the building was still under renovation. As a result, he had plenty of time to practice and play guitar anytime he had free time.His parents, on the other hand, would forbid him from playing in order for him to focus on his studies. He claimed in an interview with Ala C that he stole the Catholic guiter and his grandmother's show before fleeing to Githurai with his uncle. He did, however, purchase a replacement guitar for the church after the original one was broken. He intends to restore it and officially request forgiveness from the church.
